As Meatloaf once sagely sang, “I would do anything for love, but I won’t do that”.

This is the best way for me to describe my stance on giving up on my love of coffee to benefit my health.

I. Just. Can’t.

No matter how hard I try, I just can’t seem to give up my morning cup and so I decided to make the most of it by investigating how I can turn my vice into a positive.

How can I make coffee good for me?

The results of my deep dive in defence of my daily Keep Cup of decadence was discovering it is in fact possible to add a heap of required vitamins and nutritional supplements into my caffeine mix, boosting my health and giving me a darned good excuse to continue with my wicked ways. Win/win.

Yes, you read that right. I found a way! By adding a wee teaspoon of the below superfoods to your morning, midday or afternoon brew, you can help your wellness with everything from boosting your mood to enhancing your sex life… No kidding!

Cinnamon

Cinnamon has been used medicinally for thousands of years and studies have show it protects your heart, brain, boosts your immune system and lowers your risk of cancer. Turns out adding cinnamon to your cuppa ensures you’re not only adding in some spicy flavour, but you’re also downing a bunch of super powerful antioxidants. In fact, cinnamon is well known to pack in the most antioxidants of all the spices in your cupboard! Who knew?

Maca

Not, not short for McDonalds, maca is a root plant used to help balance hormones, increase athletic performance and enhance fertility. Maca also gives cinnamon a run for its money when it comes to amino acids and anti-oxidants (including eight essential amino acids), includes 20 free-form fatty acids and is high in protein and vitamin C.

Ginger

Adding ginger into your coffee not only creates a Moroccan flavour vibe, it can help with anti inflammation, can reduce muscle pain, lower cholesterol and aid in digestion.

Turmeric

Turmeric lattes are the coffee de jour right now for a reason. This sunny, golden spice has medicinal benefits including delivering antioxidants, is an anti inflammatory, a liver cleanser and can even help treat depression. Spoon in a little organic coconut and you’ve got yourself a health cup of Joe!

Cacao

Aside from the fact its literally chocolate, cacao is a power-packed super food delivering antioxidants, magnesium and a good dose of iron for good measure.

Cacao is known to lower blood pressure, is mood enhancing and clears brain fog. Just one teaspoon will help make your coffee healthier and if you’re also inclined to add in some coconut, then you’re well on your way to destination Healthy Town.
